Greetings from Hickory Hill!
Years in our dreams, the cabins at Hickory Hill actually had the first “ground breaking” in January 2003 when we hand-shoveled the holes for the support posts under the cabins. Since that day, we have worked every weekend with friends and family to achieve Stage One of our construction…3 fully furnished cabins and a Wedding Chapel on Village Creek.
While privacy was a high priority with us, we knew that we had something at Hickory Hill we wanted to share with others. We kept the beauty of Village Creek and the integrity of the Big Thicket in mind while we built our private bed and breakfast cabins, but also included the comforts of home that we knew people would want in a weekend get-away. As a family, we have worked very hard to “follow our dreams”, but we could not have accomplished all of this without the help and support of friends and family who have shown up consistently to lend us a hand. We will be forever grateful to Jimmy McNeil, Chuck Schaff, Bobby Gaston, and Ken Barrington who continue to support us, and who are always just a phone call away. God has truly blessed us with wonderful family and friends.
In April 2005, we completed Stage One of our dream at Hickory Hill with the completion of the 3 cabins and a Wedding Chapel. Our next project will be a pavilion with a kitchen so that we will be able to accommodate larger numbers of people for family reunions, wedding receptions, church group gatherings, and corporate functions.
In the spring we held Open House at Hickory Hill, and then had a ribbon-cutting ceremony in early June. This summer we have had a church youth retreat, three beautiful weddings in our Wedding Chapel, and our cabins have provided a romantic getaway, a 16th birthday celebration, a family get-together, and a honeymoon for one of our newlyweds. We truly feel that God has had His hand in this endeavor, and our blessings have been bountiful.
Future plans for Hickory Hill include a “Tree House”, swimming pool, playground, a handicap accessible cabin, 2 larger cabins, and an office/country store.
Thank you for visiting our web site and we look forward to hearing from you.
